What is Sports Medicine Acupuncture?
Sports Medicine Acupuncture is a branch of acupuncture that deals with physical fitness and the treatment and prevention of injuries related to sports and exercise. These treatments are widely used by professional athletes as well as recreational fitness enthusiasts. As the demands on the body increase, the risk of injury also increases. Sports Medicine Acupuncture is a highly effective approach to treating injuries but more importantly, it helps with the prevention of injuries.
The premise behind Sports Medicine Acupuncture is combining Western Medicine and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) to address the athlete’s healing potential. This is accomplished by increasing blood flow to the site of an injury, reducing inflammation, releasing trigger points, and relieving pain.
What is the treatment like?
At Elliott Acupuncture, your Sports Medicine Treatment will consist of using acupuncture, electro-acupuncture, cupping and gua sha (modalities vary based on assessment) to assist your body in quickly recovering from a current injury and to prevent future injuries.
Do I have to request this treatment when booking an appointment?
In general, any appointment can be focused on treating a sports injury. If you are looking for a more comprehensive treatment to work on multiple sites with multiple modalities, we recommend booking the Extended Treatment appointment, allowing us 90 minutes to work on the entire body.
